One of the most important design principles behind RosterNex is server-side data scoping. The system determines a supervisor's organizational identity and limits data access to their direct reports, through the relationship employees.manager_id = supervisor.entity_id.
This filtering happens server-side, not just in the interface so it applies consistently across every surface, preventing a supervisor from bypassing the UI to reach another supervisor's team.

Only direct reports are displayed: employee number, name, department, position, employment type, contact information, current status, current shift, and attendance status. The supervisor doesn't need or get access to the complete HR employee database, which keeps the interface focused and limits information exposure.
In shift-based organizations, supervisors are usually already the ones deciding whether an absence can be accommodated operationally. So RosterNex lets a supervisor create leave for any direct report the application is created as already approved, eliminating an approval loop where the supervisor was already the authority. The same screen shows recent team applications, so supervisors can see who's out now, upcoming leave, and patterns affecting staffing.
